Common questions
Do I need a Piwik PRO account to use MCP?
Yes. MCP connects directly to your Piwik PRO account – that’s where your data, permissions, and privacy settings live. If you don’t have one yet, you can start a free 30-day trial with no credit card needed.
Which AI tools work with the Piwik PRO MCP server?
Claude Desktop is the most common choice and the one we’ve tested most thoroughly. Any AI client that supports the MCP standard should work, though the setup steps may differ slightly. If you’re using a different client and running into trouble, let us know via the form above.
Is my data safe when connecting an AI tool to Piwik PRO?
Yes, when set up correctly. The MCP server runs locally on your machine – your credentials are stored there and never passed to the AI interface directly. All actions are also constrained by your existing Piwik PRO permissions, so the AI can only do what your account role allows. You can also configure specific operations to require your approval before they run.
Can MCP make changes to my Piwik PRO setup without me knowing?
Not unless you allow it. In read-only mode, MCP can retrieve and analyze data but can’t touch anything in your account. You can also set individual actions – like publishing tags or changing configurations – to require your explicit approval before they run. We recommend starting in read-only mode until you’re comfortable with how it works.
Do I need technical skills to set up MCP?
The setup takes a few minutes and follows a straightforward guide – install the MCP server, connect your AI client, and authenticate with your Piwik PRO credentials. No coding required. If you get stuck at any step, that’s exactly what the form above is for.
MCP is connected but I’m not seeing any data. What should I check?
A few things to check first: make sure your Piwik PRO account has data collected for the date range you’re asking about, confirm your user role has access to the relevant sites or apps, and check that you authenticated with the right credentials. Still stuck? Use the form above and describe what you’re seeing – we’ll help you figure it out.
